My next woodworking, or rather 'Chainsaw Carving' project:Making a bench was next on my 'to-do' list. I had reserved two Oak logs for this project. Unfortunately since I rarely get my hands on large logs I was forced to make the bench in pieces,bolting them together with stainless steel rods. An advantage is that the bench can be fully dismantled if you want to relocate it. The bad side is that you have A LOT of individual pieces that you need to precise fit them onto each other. The wood was still fairy green, so you had to take warping and shrinking into account as well. That took huge amounts of time and frustration. I doubt I will ever undertake such a thing again..Despite the troubles I had with this I am happy with the result. The color the Tung oil gives the wood is incredible and that moment made up for most of my frustrations. And to be fair, I again learned a lot of new techniques like burning lines with the angle grinder and steel cutting disks.Let me know what you think of it.This bench was made in Hortus Haren, Netherlands. As requested by friends on a snake keepers forum, here is a video showing a carving I`m doing on a rilfe stock I`ve made. The stock is made from Sapele, a type of Mahogany. Having almost finished the stock I thought I`d finish it off with a nice Celtic knot carving on the underside. It`s already looking lovely, I can see I`m going to be very happy with this stock. :)Now I`ve started, I`ll do the odd video through different stages of the carving until I`m finished and we can look at the finished rifle. The beautiful Brocock Hunter that is going to sit on this stock was donated to my collection by my best man Dan. One of the nicest (and filthiest) people I`ve ever met....

A Croatian artist Goran Knezevic, who makes one-of-a-kind works of art in wrought iron using a hammer, an anvil and then welds the parts together, is a friend of mine and taken by my love towards Iron Maiden has decided to create a masterpiece which will be spoken of for a long time, both in musical and artistic circles.Right now Goran is working on his piece, which will be nearly 2 meterstall and 2.5 meters wide. The image will feature the Maiden line-up from1982 (with Clive Burr on the drums) and, by the time it's finished, willhave these amazing characteristics:- It will show the band in life size- More than 320 work hours will be spent on its making- It will weigh over 100 kilograms- It will have more than 2000 welded joints- It will have more of 1000 iron pieces- More than 200,000 hammer strikes will be used- It will be a unique piece and the most detailed one Goran's ever made- His similar, but far smaller works, have reached prices over 20,000 EuroGoran has decided to give this work of art for free, without anycompensation or similar requests, to Iron Maiden, with intention to have itsold for a charity benefit (e.g. Clive Aid or something similar). It willbe finished sometime in September 2009 , and we would be able to transport it to London in October by Ryan Air. Itis intention that piece could be displayed for the public in the Hard Rock Cafe, before the charity auction took place.The work is nearly completed (90% - Goran need to frame picture in Iron and finish some details on Adrian, Clive and all faces) and I guarantee to you that this is such a unique masterpiece that no one has ever done, or ever will. As preparation for this work, Goran made life-sized images of Agnus Young and of Michael Jackson, but the entire detailed Maiden line-up is something even more amazing.
